Our country is still having plenty of lands which is non-cultivable due to lack of water. Unfortunately, water is also a natural resource that has not been uniformly distributed which otherwise could have avoided both flood and drought. Water is a resource that has to be preserved for sustainability for future generations. Global warming and misuse of water resources are making this necessity of humanity, a scarce commodity. A lot of researches have taken place regarding stoppage of wasting water for irrigation and for getting maximum yield using minimum water resources.
Drip irrigation has been a method deployed for decades and time tested even in the Middle East countries where water is scarce. In simple terms water, especially treated wastewater is taken to fields and depending on the type of crop the supply of water is regulated by providing only the minimal amount of water that is required for that particular type of crop. The advantages have been many like saving of water, use of recycled water and high yield from the crops which otherwise do not need excess water.
There was initial resistance from farmers who were using plenty of water during the availability and using conventional irrigation methods. But the awareness program had a big impact on a few farmers that started using drip irrigation. And the yields started showing progress when compared to the conventional method.
